Data Layers are spatial datasets that are authored outside of Giraffe and then imported, either via API connection or upload.

A map layer is a database in GIS that contains groups of features representing real-world objects or places like parcels, streets, or postal codes. These features can be points, lines, or areas (polygons). Layers can also include raster images, such as satellite imagery. Each feature in a layer is visually represented and has a link to its attributes stored in a database. In a Geographic Information System, maps are created by combining multiple layers.

The Layer Library is a searchable repository of all of the data layers available to your account. The layers in the Layer Library may be added by the Giraffe Team, yourself or someone else in your workspace, or anyone who shares a layer with you directly from Manage Layers.

If the Layer Library doesn ‘t have what you’re looking for, existing maps and designs can be added to a Giraffe project for reference, as context or to trace over. The supported file formats are:

When you add a data layer to Giraffe, it becomes part of your Workspace. You can share the layer with others either within or outside of your workspace via Manage Layers.
