In this article, we delve into the features and functionalities of the Precinct app, a module within Giraffe, designed to streamline spatial analysis. The Precinct app is situated in the top right-hand corner of the user interface in Giraffe, alongside other modules, each serving a specific purpose.
Giraffe hosts various default apps like the Urban Tab, Analytics app, and Solar app, catering to different analytical needs. However, not all apps are universally applicable to every project. Hence, the modular design of Giraffe allows users to select and utilize specific modules as per their project requirements.
The central functionality of the Precinct app revolves around reporting areas based on geometric or geographic precincts, as opposed to usage-based reporting offered by the Urban Tab. By utilizing the Precinct app, users can obtain detailed reports organized by defined precincts or lots.
To initiate spatial analysis using the Precinct app, users need to define precincts by drawing polygons representing lots or precincts. Each polygon requires a unique identifier, typically a Lot number, and optionally, users can assign colors to differentiate between different lots or precincts.
To effectively utilize the Precinct app, it's crucial to separate parcel geometry or lot geometry from the built form using layers. Users can create a new drawing layer specifically for lots or precincts and populate it with the respective geometries representing the defined lots or precincts.
Once the necessary geometries are set up and organized into layers, users can proceed to run the Precinct app analysis. By specifying the geometry layer and the lots layer, users can generate detailed reports showcasing lot numbers, areas, building sections, open space ratio, total areas, and floor space ratio (FSR).
One of the standout features of the Precinct app is its ability to perform scenario-based analysis. Users can create different scenarios by modifying geometries and running analyses to compare results across scenarios. This functionality proves invaluable for assessing various development scenarios and their impact on spatial metrics.
The Precinct app offers seamless export options, allowing users to export analysis results to CSV spreadsheets for further manipulation or sharing. Additionally, users can visualize the analysis results within Giraffe or export them to external visualization tools for comprehensive assessment.
