Add the Solar App


The Solar app loads by default for all new projects.

If you want to add it to a legacy project, you can access the Apps list from the + button in the app palette.

Solar Tab

Click the Solar tab to begin.

Adjust Time and Date


Time

Move the horizontal line Up and Down to change the time of day.

<aside> 🌜 Hint: Change the time to Midnight to completely turn off shadows.

Date

Move the Vertical bar side to side to change the date.

You can also click “Winter Solstice” to default the date/time setting to the solstice for your hemisphere.

The date and time you select will display on the map. This is the time and date for all of your Views and affects the shadows throughout your project.

<aside> 💡 The Solar App will not take contextual 3D Buildings into account. If you would like to include surroundings, Use Map features to Create Geometry and Query Information.

Analyze Exposure


The amount of sunlight exposure on a façade or landscape is an important metric for successful design.

Run Analysis

  1. Click “Run Sunlight Hours Analysis” to begin.

  2. Set your target sunlight exposure value.

  1. Adjust the time window for the analysis to run using the sliders. The Analysis runs for both facades and landscape.

  1. Note the graph readout, which displays the % of façade and landscape to receive the hours of sunlight defined.
