Comparing the areas, shadowing and footprint of different scenarios is a key part of design.
Giraffe supports design options with the 'drawing layers'.
Create a new Drawing layer using the New Drawing Layer button in the Layer palette
To add a geometry to a layer, select the geometry, then select the layer from the dropdown in the left hand Properties palette
It is recommended to group layers by scenario to make analysis and visibility easier to control.
To group layers, drag one layer directly on top of another layer.
You will be prompted to enter a name for the group.
You can turn grouped layers on and off with a single toggle.
Add Layer Groups
You can change the visibility of layers in the Layer tab in the left-hand palette.
Click the eyeball to turn off a layer in one click.
Input a value or scrub in the opacity box.
The closed eyeball Next to a drawing layer indicates it is not visible, and not included in calculations.
Giraffe Urban Calculations shows the areas for all layers that are on. To show areas for different options turn the layers you don't want to consider to fully invisible. (You'll see a closed eye icon).
Remember you can use views to control layer visibility! Layers can be used in the normal view and also in the 3D view.
You can compare scenarios using Analytics
If you Create and Manage Options using Drawing Layers, you may want to compare those options’ performance in various ways.
One way is to split your analytics measures by Layer or Layer Group.
To hide specific categories from the breakdown:
